About me

Originally from France, I grew up abroad, as one of those "third-culture-kids" who happily (in my case) move from country to country. It was a great childhood, full of rich experiences and endless discoveries, but my parents were worried that we were growing up "rootless". So, every summer, my brother and I would fly back to France and stay with our grandparents who had a farm in the country, a few miles from the ocean. While my grandfather talked to us about trees and shared his love of nature, my grandmother made Tarte Tatin and stews and taught me how to sew and knit. She was a master seamstress, making wedding dresses for her friends' daughters, and loved nothing more than making clothes for us.

As a child I wasn't particularly interested in either knitting or sewing. But many years later, when my grandmother was visiting me in New York City in 2002, I decided I wanted to knit some booties for my co-worker's baby-to-be and she showed me how. I found knitting soothing and meditative and loved to see what I was capable of making with my hands.

I published my first pattern, the Tiered Baby Coat in 2009, shortly after my grandmother passed away.

All my designs are inspired by the wonderful memories of her, of us creating things together, of me as a child delighted by the natural world around me. With each stitch, I imagine the memories I am creating for my own children, and if feels like a wonderful link between the past and the future. Sometimes it's good to slow down and feel this nostalgia, and then let it go and watch little children busy and bursting with life, on their road to discovering the world wrapped in lovingly-made hand-knits.
