Icelandic bind off: an easy version
A very neat and stretchy bind off that works particularly well on garter stitch (try it on garter cuffs or hems!)
It works flat as well as in the round, on an even or odd number of stitches.
"My" version is simplified in that I focus on the two overall moves I'm making, without breaking it down too much (which confuses things):
[1st stitch is just knit].
Then alternate:
1) slip the one stitch just worked from the right to the left needle (purlwise)
2) knit the second stitch through the first stitch's loop and pull that off the left-hand needle onto your right-hand needle.
Very quickly you can do this in one smooth maneuver, getting from move 1 directly to move 2
[Last st: insert tapestry needle knitwise, then pull yarn through and take st off the needle.]
A neat and stretchy bind off particularly great for garter stitch, recommended for sleeve cuffs, cardigan hems, button bands... Works flat as well as in the round.
