Entrechat (worsted weight version)

€7.00

Adorable seamless shrug that knits up in no time and uses very little yarn… Features a fun and easy textured pattern. Both the heartwarmer style and the textured stitch made me think of the “entrechat,” a ballet jump where the legs cross each other mid-air in a flutter.

A fingering weight version is also available here.

A DK weight version is also available here:

A matching worsted-weight bonnet is available here:

SIZES:

0-3mo (3-6mo, 6-12mo, 12-18mo // 2-3yo, 3-4yo, 4-5yo, 5-6yo)

  • To fit chest sizes 16 (17, 18, 19 // 22, 23, 24, 25) inches or 40.5 (43, 46, 48 // 56, 58, 61, 63.5) cm.

  • Finished garment has cross-back measurement of 9 (9.75, 10.75, 11.5 // 12, 12.5, 13.25, 14.25) inches or 23 (25, 27, 29 // 30.5, 31.5, 34, 36) cm.

CONSTRUCTION:

This shrug has an unusual construction. It is knit seamlessly from the top down, from the neckline to the armpits starting with the upper back and the sleeve sections. The sleeve sections are then bound off and the back stitches are worked together with stitches picked up along each sleeve edge to form the body in one piece.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

casting-on, knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, picking up stitches, yarn over.

GAUGE:

18 sts x 28 rows = 4 inches or 10 cm in stockinette stitch.

YARN REQUIREMENTS:

1 (1, 1, 1 // 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1.75) skeins of Malabrigo Merino Worsted OR approximately 125 (150, 175, 200 // 225, 250, 300, 350) yds or 114 (137, 160, 183 // 206, 229, 274, 320) meters of worsted weight yarn.

Note: Malabrigo Merino Worsted is not superwash, but any similar superwash yarn that gets you gauge can be substituted.

NEEDLES/NOTIONS:

  • US 8 or 5mm circular needles or size needed to get stockinette gauge. Note: garment is not knit in the round. Circular needles are needed because they hold all the stitches easily and because of their flexibility.

  • 2 stitch markers

  • tapestry needle

  • one 5/8-inch or 1.5 cm diameter button
